Qatar Petroleum Development Co. Ltd. (Japan) (QPD) is a Japanese joint stock oil development and producing company, which was initially established by joint venture of three (3) Japanese companies namely; Cosmo Oil., United Petroleum Development Co., Ltd, Nisso Iwai Corporation (recently Sojitz Corporation) in 1997. Current shareholders of QPD are Cosmo Oil Co. - 75% and Sojitz Corporation - 25%.

QPD was established as the project company for the purpose of petroleum development and operation in Block 1 SE located offshore Qatar in September 1997. After the field development and installations in Al Karkara Field and A-Structure North Field, the first oil flowed in March 2006. Since then with subsequent developments in the field, the total crude oil production amounts to 11 million barrels (as of March end in 2011).

In December 1997 QPD entered into a Development and Production Sharing Agreement (DPSA) of Al Karkara and A-Structures Offshore Block 1SE Qatar with the Government of the State of Qatar. QPD is holding 100% interest of development in the agreed area.

QPD completed the Full Field Development Plan (FFDP) for Al-Karkara and A-Structure North in 2010 and for A-Structure South in 2011. QPD current average oil production is 7,000 bopd as of October 2011. QPD puts a high priority and focuses on being an environmentally friendly operation. It is the first operator in Qatar to achieve the "Zero Gas Flaring" status offshore by injecting all the produced ga back to the reservoir.
